My Life Experience

Eric Marcus was born in South Bend, Indiana where his family has owned and operated a trucking company and warehouse business for over 50 years. Every member of Eric's family has been licensed to practice real estate, and his father owns a real estate company in Indiana.

After graduating with honors from Indiana University in 1991, Eric earned his CPA and worked for a big six accounting firm in Chicago. Combining his experience and entrepreneurial spirit, Eric started his own successful accounting business that he ran for 3 years.  He then embarked on a career as a soybean trader at the Chicago Board of Trade, followed by a successful run as a stock options market maker at the Chicago Board of Options Exchange.

Eric began his real estate career in 2003 as broker/owner of ESM Realty. Since then he has closed on more than 100 transactions on condominiums, townhouses, single family homes, multi-unit residential, and commercial properties. In 2005, Eric sold more than $10 million in real estate, making him among the top 1% of all realtors in Chicago. He is also a featured agent on Realtor.com in several zip codes and a showcase member of the Chicagotribune.com advertising section.

Eric is known for his honesty, integrity, diligence and sense of humor. Eric puts his clients' needs first which is why ESM Realty has grown so tremendously since its inception.

Eric and his wife Caryn married in June 2004, and their daughter Ava was born in April 2006. They live near Hamlin Park in Chicago's Roscoe Village neighborhood. Caryn is the Manager of Individual Giving in the Office of Development at Swedish Covenant Hospital. The two are active in the Chicago community--Eric serves as Vice President of Community Service on the Board of the Chicago Chapter of the IU Alumni Association and Caryn is a Board member of the UIC Athletic Alumni Club.
